Deborah R. New, DDS
As an orthodontist, I love working with people, both my patients and staff. I love seeing patients’ smiles transform and their confidence skyrocket when they go through orthodontic treatment. I know that whatever I do will improve their outlook on life and their future.
I grew up in Columbus, Ohio, and have been living in Rochester for nearly a quarter century. I obtained my BS in microbiology and my Doctorate of Dental Surgery from The Ohio State University, so I’m a Buckeye through and through! I had decided to look into dentistry as a career because I worked with a dentist on a research project regarding Sjögren’s syndrome prior to dental school.
After dental school, I attended the Eastman Institute for my certificate in orthodontics and the University of Rochester for my Ph.D. in anatomy. I continue to learn by attending local, regional, and national meetings of the American Association of Orthodontics, Northeastern Society of Orthodontists, New York State Society of Orthodontists, and American Dental Association.

Outside the Office
Away from work, I love to play tennis if the sun is out, but since that is a rarity here in Rochester, I’m usually found playing in one of the great indoor facilities we have in the area. I also love to garden and bird watch. I especially enjoy when I catch a glimpse of a hummingbird!
I have a wonderful husband, Nufatt Leong, who has worked at the University of Rochester Medical Center for more than 20 years! Our daughter Camille will be attending dental school next year.
Getting to know so many people from diverse backgrounds really keeps my days exciting. There is no other profession that empowers you to improve someone’s life, or give him or her as much confidence, as being an orthodontist does. I hope you’ve enjoyed getting to know a bit about me and consider my practice for your orthodontic treatment. I look forward to meeting you!
